Four Lankan players for Asian Senior Squash Tourney

Six member squad including four players and two officials left the
island yesterday to take part in the 14th Asian Senior Squash
Championships 2008 which gets underway in Kuwait today.
The tournament is being conducted by the Asian Squash Federation and
will be continued till February 21.
Altogether fourteen countries will vie for honours in this
championship including Malaysia, Macau, Qatar, Japan, Korea, host
Kuwait, Pakistan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, China,
Palestine and Iran. Malaysians are the hot favourites for this event as
both top and bottom seeds are from Malaysia.
The Sri Lanka team comprises national number two player Naveen
Samarasinghe, Sri Lanka number three Anura Hewage and Gihan Suwaris
while Eranga Amunugama went as stand by.
Ranjan Samarasinghe joined the team as the coach with Palitha
Weerasinghe will accompany the team as the Manager.
In the first match for Sri Lanka Navin Samarasinghe will take on
Ammar Tamimi from host country Kuwait while Gihan Suwaris will be up
against an iranian M.H. Seyed Sanaee.
Anura Hewage will begin his campaign when he meet Mohammed Marri from
Qatar in his first match. |
