LTTE area leader killed

The Security Forces launched another offensive on LTTE defence lines in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai yesterday morning destroying six Tiger bunkers and killing five LTTE cadres including an area leader.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said troops made another successful forward march ambushing the LTTE FDLs in Nagarkovil and Muhamalai around 5.00 am.

“A fierce fight had lasted for 30 minutes and troops successfully confronted with the LTTE cadres and destroyed six bunkers, four in Nagarkovil and another two in Muhamalai,” he told the Daily News.

Intercepted Tiger communications confirmed that they have lost five of their cadres and 10 others were injured.

“An LTTE area leader was among those killed,” Brigadier Nanayakkara said.

A soldier was killed and five others injured in the ambush.
