PAC report to Finance Ministry

KOTTE: Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara yesterday ordered authorities to immediately send the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report presented in Parliament to the Finance Ministry Secretary.

The Speaker made this order responding to questions raised by JVP MP Wasantha Samarasinghe and UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera.

The two MPs said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report has recommended to inform the Finance Ministry Secretary to take action regarding those who have swindled public funds.

However, the Finance Ministry Secretary has told the media that he has not been informed or given any report regarding this.

Two MPs questioned on why the Finance Ministry Secretary has not been informed regarding this issue.

The Speaker said a copy of the PAC report has been given to the relevant Minister.

"Therefore, there is no tradition of giving a copy of the report to the Finance Ministry Secretary.

However, the Speaker said steps will be taken to send a copy to the Finance Ministry Secretary during the course of today".
