National workshop
A National workshop for medical and legal personnel, paramedical and
senior NGO staff will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Global
Towers Hotel., Colombo 6.
It is organised by the Survivors Associated Sri Lanka in association
with the Society for Social Research, Art and Culture, New Delhi, India
supported by the European Union.
Introduction to torture and human rights effectiveness of current law
practice to prosecute perpetrators of torture and violence, medico legal
aspects and consequences of torture services in physiotherapy for
rehabilitation of torture survivors; role of NHRC in the rehabilitation
and support of torture survivors; comprehensive psychological
rehabilitation services to torture victims and strengthening NGOs in the
field of human rights by providing technical assistance and skills
against torture will be discussed,
Participants will include professionals from Mannar, Vavuniya,
Batticaloa, Kalmunai, Ampara, Puttalam, Pottuvil, Valaichenai and
Tangalle.
Free sterilising, neutering clinic
The Animal Welfare and Protection Association will conduct a free
sterilising and neutering clinic on Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to noon at
Sathva Sevana Transit Home for Animals, 16, D 1/2, Diyagama Road,
Kahatuduwa on a first come first served basis.
Dogs and cats over six months can be sterilised or neutered. The
animals must not be given any food and water for 12 hours prior to the
operation and must not be sick. Cats should be brought in a box or cage
and dogs on a chain.
