Anton (162) helps Joes get 343/7

Anton de Livera hammered a magnificent 162 to help S. Joseph’s College reach a massive 343 for 7 in their first innings on the opening day of their annual inter school fixture against S. Thomas’ College played for the Gilmore Jayasuriya Trophy at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

St. Joseph’s 343 for 7 decl (A. de Livera 162, D. Karunaratne 63, P. Sankalpa 50 n.o, H. Silva 26, J. Tahir 2 for 32, M. Fernando 2 r 103).

Peterites well placed

St. Peter’s College were well placed at 49 for no loss in reply to Royal’s first innings total of 235 runs on the opening day of their inter school cricket tournament match which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Royal 235 (K. Withanage 71, S. de Alwis 29, K. Boteju 23, T. Silva 3 for 80, S. Fernando 2 for 64, V. Perera 2 for 35). St. Peter’s 49 for no loss (S. Wijeratne 39 n.o). (C.D.)


Wesley get 187

Wesley College Colombo were all out for 187 runs and Cambrian in reply were 52 for 3 at the end of first day in their inter-school Under-20 Division One cricket tournament match played at Campbell Park for the Lemonade Trophy. J. Wanderse and A. Fonseka were the chief scorers for home team with 45 and 40 runs respectively. Chamesh Fernando was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 3 for 40.

Chief scores Wesley: 187 (J. Wanderse 45, A. Fonseka 40, Chamesh Fernando 3/40, Sanka Peiris 2/14, Shivantha Kumara 2/19, Dilan Chandima 2/40). Prince of Wales: 52/3 (Chamesh Fernando 24).


Bens pile up 232

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa were 30 for no loss at the end of day one in reply to St. Benedict’s College total of 232 runs in their inter-school under-20 division one cricket tournament match played at Kotahena for the Lemonade Trophy.

Bens won the toss and elected to bat and at one stage they were 80 for 4. Then there were two stubborn knocks by Dilanka Anuwardhi 44 and Ashan Sirimanne 32, Abilash Fernando too contributed 26 runs for the visitors, Sanjaya Fernando bagged 5 for 45.

St. Benedict’s 232 Waruna Fernando 34, Janaka Wijewardena 44, Ashan Sirimanne 32, Abilash Fernando 26, Dilanka Anuwardhi 44, Sanjaya Fernando 5 for 45, Janitha Jayawardene 3 for 57.
