Killing at Wasgamuwa Circuit Bungalow: Four arrested

Central Province Police Special Investigations Unit probing the
killing of Wasgamuwa National Park Assistant Circuit Bungalow Keeper M.
G. Samaranayake and Forest Department Tracker D. M. Dingiri Banda
arrested four suspects yesterday.
The unit also seized two shotguns, three live cartridges and sharp
weapon from their possession.
Investigations have revealed that LTTE terrorists were not involved
in the killing.
Investigations have also revealed that a group of five including the
four arrested suspects were involved in the killing, Central Province
DIG Kingsley Ekanayake said.
Three were nick named Vedi Chuti, Koknahara Malli and Rale under
interrogation, the suspects have confessed that they visited the circuit
bungalow on January 28 night and participated in a party with the two
victims.
After the party, they had left the circuit bungalow after robbing a
shot gun and ammunition from it.
Fearing that they will be reported to Police for this robbery, they
had returned to the circuit bungalow the same night and killed the
bungalow keeper and the watcher.
Suspect had thought that the killing would be considered by the
people in the area as another LTTE atrocity.
DIG Ekanayake said Police is on the trail of the fifth suspect. |
