Independence celebrations in Canada

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa has finalised arrangements to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 60th anniversary of independence on Monday.

The formal ceremony will be held in the morning at the Centurion Conference and Event Center in the city of Ottawa. Members of the Sri Lankan community, Canadian Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada will participate.

Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity) Jason Kenney will be the Chief Guest.

To mark the Diamond Jubilee of Sri Lanka’s independence, the Sri Lanka High Commission has made arrangements for the Sri Lanka State Dance Ensemble to perform in the main cities of Canada. The Cultural Affairs Ministry is instrumental in organising this first-ever visit to Canada by the Sri Lanka dancers.

The State Dance Ensemble will consist of 14 members and will be led by Ravibandu Vidyapathy.
