SLIIT announces scholarships for academically gifted students
In an unprecedented effort to provide financial support to young
students faced with rising higher education costs, Sri Lanka Institute
of Information Technology SLIIT), Sri Lanka’s largest IT degree awarding
institute, recently announced that it would award several full tuition
scholarships to students who have done exceptionally well in their
Advanced level examinations and wishing to pursue IT for their higher
studies.
Through the establishment of a scholarship programme, SLIIT hopes to
attract the best brains and high achievers in their 2008 intake to study
the four years Bachelor of Sciences (Honors) degree in IT.
SLIIT will consider for this scholarship programme, applicants
displaying high academic and extra curricular talent and who have
obtained a minimum ‘Z’ score of 1.4 at their Advanced level
examinations. The subjects offered could be varied and not restricted to
any particular stream.
All applicants will have to face an aptitude test plus an interview.
Candidates will be selected for the aptitude test based on merit. The
scholarships offered are for study at the Malabe campus.
CEO of SLIIT Professor Lalith Gamage was upbeat about the new
scholarship programme. “SLIIT is dedicated to increasing access to
higher education, particularly in the area of IT” he said.
“I am particularly proud to welcome these students to our campus as
their hard work, achievement and diverse life experiences will enrich
the learning environment for everyone”, he emphasised.
Committed to increasing the share of IT professionals in the country,
In addition to the scholarships for academically gifted students, SLIIT
is offering half scholarships, to children of Samurdhi beneficiaries for
enrollment at their Matara center.
The first year of this programme will be at SLIIT’s Matara center and
thereafter at the Malabe campus for the rest of the degree course.
