Six-member tennis team for Bangladesh

A six member team comprising three girls and three boys left the island to take part in the International Tennis Federation under 14 Asia Cup Championships 2008 (group 2) which got underway in Dhaka, Bangladesh and will be continued till January 27. The tournament is being hosted by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation.

The players have been selected by the national tennis selection committee of Sri Lanka.

The other countries who take part in this tournament are host Bangladesh, Buthan, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Macau, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam as well as an International Tennis Federation team from the West Asian region.

This is a golden opportunity for our players to compete with the top players in the Asian region which would immensely help them to improve their standard and help the country to boost its Asian rankings.

This tournament will serve as an event to earn a place to take part in the International Tennis Federation under 14 Asian Championships (group 1) which is scheduled to be held mid of March.

Girls team- Dinushki Ranasinghe (Bishop’s College), Nilushi Fernando (St. Bridget’s Convent), Shankari Thayakaran (Bishop’s College).

Boys team- Vimuktha De Alvis, Shamal Dissanayake (Royal College), Madusha Wijesuriya (Ananda College). Pahirathan Tharmakularaja- Coach / Non playing captain.
