Army Commander visits Yala
On the heels of unfolding security concerns in the country's deep
south, following the massacre of innocent civilians on Wednesday, a top
level team, headed by Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka flew to
Yala area yesterday morning.
A special round of discussions centred on current security
arrangements in place in surrounding villages got under way with the
participation of Area Commander for Yala and Hambantota Brigadier
Sudantha Ranasinghe, Deputy Inspector General of Police Jayantha
Wickramarathna, Commander, Civil Defence Forces Rear Admiral Sarath
Weerasekara and a representative gathering of senior Police and Army
officers where current developments were reevaluated.
The Army Commander instructed relevant authorities to take further
precautionary measures to prevent recurrence of Tiger infiltration into
jungle areas. The visiting retinue inspected a few sensitive areas
before the end of the tour. |
