CMC Deputy Mayor reelected to Finance Standing Committee

Deputy Mayor S. Rajendran was reelected a member of the Standing Committee for Finance of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) for 2008 at the general meeting chaired by Mayor Uvais Mohamed Imthiyas yesterday.

The Deputy Mayor was reelected at the second round of the voting. At the first round, he was not elected as he was unable to obtain the necessary number of votes.

The Council had to hold a second round of voting responding to comments by the majority of the Councillors when results of the first count was made.

UPFA Councillor Ajantha Liyanage though elected submitted his resignation to make way for Rajendran to be elected to the the Financial Committee.

The Council held a second count and the Deputy Mayor was elected to the Committee. The second round of votes were taken as Liyanage resigned from the Committee.
