UN, EU condemn attacks

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner have strongly condemned the indiscriminate attacks by the LTTE.

"These latest deadly attacks coincide with the expiration today of the ceasefire agreement. The Secretary-General reiterates his firm belief that the only way to stop further violence in Sri Lanka is through dialogue," UNSG spokesperson said in an statement.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner, said: "I am appalled by the recent attack that has killed 27 innocent civilians in Sri Lanka. This deadly spiral of violence has to stop immediately."
