SriLankan employees assured of better future

Chairman SriLankan Airlines, Harry Jayawardane has assured employees that the airline would be made a profit-generating venture in the future.

Address: Chairman SriLankan Airlines, Harry Jayawardane addressing the employees. Director Raju Chandiram looks on.

Jayawardena addressed SriLankan Airlines staff at Katunayake recently following the Government announcement of the change of hands in management of the airline from April 1.

Jayawardena reaffirmed the Government's confidence in the staff's capability to run the airline successfully and asked for their fullest co-operation and support in the future.

The Chairman said that under the Emirates management he did not have his own way and virtually had nothing to do. "However now with Emirates not in the picture I have better control of the airline to implement new strategies," he said.

He also promised to address the grievances of the employees and pilots. Upgrade of routs and aircraft are also on the cards under the new management.

Emirates which had 43.6 shares in the airline decided not to renew their contract for a further 10 year period and the Government has decided to go ahead with a local management.

The Government has assured there would be no political interference for the management.

Board members Sanath Ukwatte and Raju Chandiram were present at the meeting.
