Akashi assures continuing Japanese assistance

The Special Peace Envoy of Japan Yasushi Akashi has expressed Japan's continuing commitment to Sri Lanka with the assurance of continuing economic assistance. Akashi has made this assurance during extensive talks with President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday. The talks lasted for more than 45 minutes.

'Mihin may take over Indian routes from SriLankan'

Mihin Lanka, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government, is likely to take over some of the Indian routes from SriLankan Airlines. This move could be the result of the Sri Lankan Government's proposed buyout of Emirates Airlines stake in the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines and subsequent restructuring of the airline.

Indian help vital to resolve ethnic issue

Minister Chandrasekaran tells The Hindu:

Community Development and Social Inequity Eradication Minister P. Chandrasekaran said it was time for India to reconsider its position on the Sri Lankan ethnic issue. Instead of remaining a mere observer, it should involve itself in the matter, Chandrasekaran told The Hindu.
