Artist Rubert Soysa
|
He has been exhibiting his work constantly for the past 31 years and
has succeeded in keeping to his own line of style over all those years.
Rubert Soysa, in that sense has had success good enough to celebrate his
cause.
Recipient of three national awards for his work the artist has,
besides showing his work here at home, exhibited extensively in many
countries overseas. Obtaining a Diploma in Art and Sculpture from the
then Government College of Fine Arts the artist's earlier works were
mainly based on subjects pertaining to the country's peasant folk.
This may well be how most of his exhibitions initially were shown at
tourist hotels and were extremely popular amongst tourist visiting Sri
Lanka.
Journey |
Try to find identity |
Today, when one witnesses his work one notices a vast change in his
subject matter. In this present exhibition of his Rubert has used two
distinct set of colours on a larger scale. A blue, grey series dotted
with sparkles of other brighter tones and a pastel series, vibrant and
alive.
The artist's other strong point is his ability to draw in swift and
sure strokes of his brush. This is plainly evident when one looks at his
work and it is also evident that it is only an artist with an experience
of being absorbed in his work over the years can achieve this.
The artist's present exhibition will remain open until the 23rd of
January. |
