Floods hit Dambulla Govt. Hospital, property valued at millions damaged

The Dambulla Government Hospital has been badly affected due to floods with the loss of property running into millions of rupees, Central Province Health Service Director Dr.Shanthi Samarasinghe said yesterday.

According to the Director, a Laproscopy machine worth Rs. 14 million and an Endoscopy machine valued at Rs. 10 million have been damaged. The hospital under three feet of water had to evacuate 180 patients seeking treatment.

With the flooding easing, the authorities were planning to commence emergency operations from today. However resuming treatment for inhouse patients could get delayed, the Director said.

A high level team was scheduled to assess the damages yesterday to reopen the hospital soon.
