President felicitates Thera
A ceremony to felicitate Ven. Matugama Gunarathana Thera, appointed
the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Galu Kadawath Sathara and Thalpe
Pathuwa with the honorary title Saddharama Keerthi Sri Pavarakiththi was
held at Temple Trees yesterday. The Karaka Maha Sanga Sabha approved the
new appointment.

The Sannas-pathraya was handed over to the Ven. Thera by the Prelate
of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Thibbbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Maha
Nayaka Thera on October 07 this year.
Speaking at the reception to welcome the new Adhikarana Sanga Nayaka
Thera, President Mahinda Rajapaksa recalled the Ven. Matugama
Gunarathana Thera's services when the country was hit by the tsunami on
December 26, 2004.
"Forgetting all political, religious or ethnic differences, the Thera
took the lead in helping those affected by the catastrophe. The new
appointment will help the Nayaka Thera to continue with the good work.
May you have the fortune, courage, good health and long life to carry
out your duties," the President said.
The Maha Sangha along with Southern Province Governor Kumari
Balasuriya, Akmeemana SLFP organiser and Southern Province Provincial
Council Member Nishantha Muthuhettigama, SPC members and other invitees
were also present. |
