Disillusioned LTTE cadres surrender

Five disillusioned LTTE cadres including three women surrendered to the Security Forces at Pallamunai in Mannar on Saturday.

The asylum seeking LTTE cadres from the Wanni, had braved tricky weather and terrain for days in their bid to escape and was on the verge of exhaustion at the time of capture, security sources said.

According to sources the captured LTTE cadres who were treated for fatigue by the troops had later been handed over to the Mannar Police for further investigations. Security sources added that they were expecting an exodus of asylum seekers with the LTTE losing its grip in several areas of Mannar and Vavuniya recently.

Meanwhile, the Security Forces successfully neutralised repeated LTTE attempts to breach the forward defences at Navathakulam in Vavuniya. At least two Tigers were killed in the incident with no casualties reported from the Security Forces.
