SMS message leads to murder

A teenage girl's father is accused of fatally stabbing a young man in Thotamune, Matara, after the father found that the 20-year-old's mobile phone had been used to send a text message expressing love for his daughter, Police said yesterday.

The man traced the owner of the phone and allegedly stabbed him several times on Sunday, before surrendering to police with the knife, officers said.

Police later found that the text message had been sent to the 13-year-old girl by a friend of the victim. The man is to appear in Court and is to be charged with murder.
