Rapid Prototype Machine to boost industrial sector
A Rapid Phototyping Machine has been set up for the first time in Sri
Lanka to boost the industrial sector. An MOU was signed between
Industrial Development Ministry Secretary W.Guruge and Science and
Technology Ministry Secretary A.N.R. Amaratunga at the Industrial
Development Ministry, recently.
By introducing this machine not only Sri Lanka's electrical and
electronic sector but also other sectors, specially the motor vehicle
industry could benefit. It will also help create designs in the
jewellery manufacturing industry, a release by the Ministry said.
The Industrial Development Ministry selects sectors, which have a
potential to be developed together with the participation of the private
sector and implements development projects through advisory committees.
The Ministry will implement this project on the recommendations of the
electronic and electrical accessories advisory committee.
Electrical and electronic products make 15 per cent of the
international trade. The advisory committee has recommended that by
uplifting this industrial sector in the country the export income could
be rapidly increased.
In recent times most industrially developed countries have used the
contribution of the products of this sector as a help for the above
purpose. Countries like China, India and very recently Vietnam have also
used the electronics and electrical product sector to enter
international trade.
The Industrial Development Ministry believes, the products can earn
more foreign exchange. The Ministry appreciates the great contribution,
of the Vice Chancellor and the staff of the Moratuwa University to
create new products and to improve existing products in the private
sector.
This would be a great contribution to the economic development of the
country through the electronics sector, the release said.
Industrial Development Ministry Additional Secretary R.V.D.
Piyathilaka Moratuwa University Vice Chancellor Malik Samarasinghe and
Development Sector Directress Menike Thennakoon participated.
