Differently abled soldier wins Bronze in Wheelchair Badminton
No power in this world is able to challenge the morale of soldiers
following the theory of 'Determined Dared and Done'.
Although they sacrifice their limbs during the fight against
terrorism, their inborn talents shine as military training creates
chances for them to show their colours. Corporal G.G. Upul Bandara of
the Commando Regiment who manages with one arm won the Bronze medal in
the Wheelchair World Badminton Championship held for the sixth time in
Bangkok, Thailand recently.
In the dual event of the same competition, Corporal G.G. Upul Bandara
won the fourth place against his rival Private G. Fernando.
The sixth IBAD badminton championship competed by about 200
differently-abled sportsmen from various countries was held in Bangkok
from October 27 to November 3.
Major A.J.T.S. Bandusena of the 10th Gajaba Regiment, Corporal W.A.J.
Lalith Kumara of the 4th Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Sergeant K.S.
Weerasinghe of the 6th Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Sergeant J.K.W.
Munidasa and Corporal G.G. Upul Bandara of the 2nd Commando Regiment and
Private G. Fernando of the 4th Gajaba Regiment who are differently abled
represented the Sri Lankan team under different categories.
Their coach and team manager was P. Maganaarachchi.
