Young entrepreneurs feted
The Young Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka (YESL) were feted with
prestigious awards at the Young Entrepreneurs awards ceremony at the
BMICH on Monday for the 10th consecutive year.
This programme was conducted in 35 schools reaching 35,000 students.
The objective of YESL is to educate schoolchildren on entrepreneurship
which include business, economics, finance, marketing and human resource
management.
It runs as a non-profit company incorporated as a Member of Nation
Franchise Holder of Junior Achievement Worldwide and approved by
Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka.
YESL founded in 1998 has displayed a remarkable growth today.
YESL programmes are conducted in three levels as elementary, middle
and high level covering year one to 13.
An exhibition of school company products and displays by elementary
-middle school students was also held on Monday.
At the presentation of certificates, 17 merit awards, eight YESL
consultant awards, 15 silver awards, 15 gold awards and three main
awards were distributed at the event. Eighteen Principals and teachers
were also awarded certificates.
Nimesha De Silva of Musaeus College Colombo, the Most Outstanding
Young Entrepreneur of the year 2007 was honoured with the Daily News
Award presented by ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara while M.A.
K.Mahesha Kalyani of the Mahiyanganaya National School won the Most
Outstanding Young Girl Entrepreneur and Susan Fernando of Ananda College
Colombo won the Most Outstanding Boy Entrepreneur Award who was
presented with the Patrick Amarasinghe Award. - RK
