Cleaner Production Centre to motivate industrialists
Ramani Kangaraarachchi
The future expectation of the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC)
is to motivate all industrialists to become environmentally responsible
efficient enterprises through Cleaner Production (CP).
These industrialists could compete with any competitor in the global
market, Director, National Cleaner Production Centre, Sri Lanka, Sena
Peiris said.
The inauguration of the first ever National Roundtable Conference
organised by the NCPC was held at the BMICH on Monday.
The NCPC has educated industrialists in promoting CP practices in
industries over the years through dedication and commitment. Out of over
two hundred industries that worked with the Centre several industries
have successfully implemented CP to achieve excellent economic and
environmental benefits.
Peiris recollected that NCPC had a small beginning five years ago
when only a very few industrialists knew about Cleaner Production and
this conference and the National Cleaner Production Awards Ceremony is
the realisation of a long term objective of the Centre.
He said the roundtable brought several professionals, academics, and
CP practitioners together to disseminate their knowledge and experience
to a wider audience who could benefit to convert their industries to
ecologically friendly and socially responsible enterprises.
Secretary, Ministry of Industrial Development W. Guruge said, the
NCPC has carried out a yeoman service to industries in the country by
helping them to reduce their waste generation and reduce the consumption
of raw materials, water and energy. |
