Telecom EMC for consolidation, business continuity

EMC the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced that Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), Sri Lanka’s premier telecommunication services provider, has implemented EMC storage and services to consolidate and manage the vast amount of customer information generated by its operations, more cost-effectively and with greater reliability.

EMC’s information management and storage solutions will also provide robust Business Continuity to enable non-disruptive operations for SLT.

This announcement comes soon after EMC launched its operations in Sri Lanka in August last year.

In order to meet their growing information needs, SLT opted for EMC(r) Symmetrix(r) DMX-3, a high-performance storage area network (SAN) system to consolidate information across their organization and recover critical information in case of disaster.

SLT has also deployed EMC Centera(r) and EMC DiskExtender(r) software to enable policy-based archival in order to meet various information security and regulatory compliance requirements.

CITO, Sri Lanka Telecom Ltd. D.W.R Wijeweera said “As SLT’s subscriber base grew exponentially, we were challenged by the corresponding explosion in digital information generated by our customers.

Not only did we need to consolidate all this information, but we also needed to ensure that our information was always available even in the case of natural or manmade disasters such as Tsunami and terrorist attacks.

We evaluated the various options in the market and picked EMC for their information-centric approach and the scalability and IT investment protection their solutions offered.

The feedback on EMC’s customer support from other EMC customers also reinforced our choice,” he added.

President, EMC India and SAARC Manoj Chugh said, “The explosive growth of digital information is driving growing companies like SLT to adopt effective strategies to store, protect, optimize and leverage their critical information.

The telecommunications vertical has emerged as one of the biggest adopters of information infrastructure solutions for EMC globally and we are honored to partner with Sri Lanka Telecom to build an intelligent information infrastructure for the nation. Sri Lanka is a strategic growth market for EMC and we look forward to build on our early success in the market”, he added.
