Kite festival postponed
THE kite show organised by the Moratuwa Lions Club in association
with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and sponsored by Seylan Tikiri,
scheduled for today has been postponed due to bad weather.
The applications submitted for this ‘sky thriller’ will be valid for
the new date that will be notified in due course.

Committee to probe name board removal
Indika POLKOTUWA
A THREE-MEMBER committee comprising senior lecturers have been
appointed by the Peradeniya University Management to investigate the
incident regarding the removal of the name board of the new residential
hall which created a crisis in the campus recently.
The committee will start its hearings from Monday, Deputy Vice
Chancellor Anura Wickramasinghe said.
The crisis ended following discussions between the University
management and the students’ unions on October 24 evening.

Art exhibition for children
THE Ratmalana Welfare Association (RWA) will hold a children’s Art
Exhibition at the Children’s Park at 2nd Lane Ratmalana on November 3
from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm.
The contest will be open to children between five and 15 years in
different categories.
The exhibition will be the first ever programme of its kind dedicated
for children, at this venue maintained and developed by the ‘Park
Development and Children’s Activities Committee of the RWA, on a
continuous basis for the provision of entertainment and recreational
facilities for children, based on the theme ‘Commitment to Develop’.

Dharmaraja Arts Festival
THE annual Kala Ulela of Dharmaraja College, Kandy organised by the
Dharmaraja Vidyalaya Kala Padanama was held on October 26 at 2.30 p.m.
at the College auditorium.
Prof. Mudiyanse Dissanayake was be the chief guest.
Edwin Ariyadasa (Media), Jayantha Chandrasiri (Film), Namel Weeramuni
and Manel Weeramuni (Drama) and Daya Rajapakse (Art) receive Dharmaraja
Visistatha Prasada Pranama awards from Dissanayake.

Buddhist Centre development
DEVELOPMENT work on the Siri Punnananda Buddhist Centre at Dewalegama
is to be launched by the Dayaka Sabha on November 1 at 11.36 a.m.
The foundation stone for a two storeyed Sanghawasa building will be
laid by philanthropists on November 1.

Book launch
MANOLAYAM, a book written about the late V. A. Manoranjithan, who
worked at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting corporation in the commercial unit
will be launched at the Colombo Tamil Sangam (Sangarappillai hall) on
November 3, 2007 at 5.00 pm.
Manoranjitham, worked as a Political cartoonist and an artist in
Thinakaran and Veerakesari since 1962 and subsequently joined the SLBC.
Professor Karthigesi Sivathamby will be the chief guest.
Thillainadarajah, additional secretary, Education Ministry will
preside.
