Bllimoria, Abayaratne win AMCHAM/Suntel Charity Golf titles

The AMCHAM/Suntel Charity Golf Tournament 2007 which got off on the in the first week of October at the Royal Colombo Golf Club ended on a high note with several winners being awarded trophies and special awards for their outstanding performances. The tournament, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (AMCHAM) and Suntel, saw the participation of over 164 golfers in a friendly one day tournament.

The tournament got off to a fine start at 6.30 am at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

The day's event was followed with a spectacular awards ceremony which began with the handing over of trophies to winners both categories Men and Women. David Evans was awarded the Men's A Runner Up trophy, while Jeoung Goan U and Kamalesh Johnpillai were placed Runners Up in the B and C categories, taking home a trophy each respectively.

Peroz Billimorio was placed winner in the Men's A Category and winner of the Overall Suntel Amcham Championship Trophy. The Men's B Category winner was Say Tien Fatt, who took home a trophy while Jason Daniel was winner of the Men's C category.

Recognition for the Women's category followed shortly with awards being given out to Heike Weiss winner of the Women's B category and Yvonne Abayaratne winner, Women's A category.

In keeping with the philanthropic spirit of the event, the proceeds from this year's tournament will be donated to Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind located in Rathmalana. This tournament, has in the past raised more than 3 million rupees for a variety of worthy projects, including the Young Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka, the Jaipur Limb Foundation for the Disabled, the Castle Street Maternity Hospital, the School for the Deaf, the AMCHAM - Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Education Trust Fund, Navajeevana, the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama and in 2006 the tournament raised Rs. 250,000 for the Navodaya special Education Residence School for Boys in Kandy.

Jerry Huxtable, Managing Director of Suntel Ltd, the title sponsor of the event, commenting on the success of the tournament said, "Suntel is proud to have been associated with this prestigious event for the third year. Bringing together golfers from around the country, who participated with much enthusiasm and contributed to a worthy cause. At Suntel, we are committed to the upliftment of our community and are happy that the tournament has raised sufficient funds to support the needs of the Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind.
