Committee for Colombo City’s integrated development

A committee for Integrated Development of the Colombo City has been
appointed under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s direction to monitor and
coordinate activities of the City of Colombo carried out by Ministries,
Departments, Colombo Municipal Council, Statutory Boards and
Corporations, sources said.
The Committee will comprise 10 members-six appointed by Urban
Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena in
consultation with the President.
The nominee of the Chief Minister, Western Provincial Council and two
others appointed by the Minister to represent the stakeholder group will
be the other Committee members.
The six members appointed by the Government will be the Chairman of
Six sub-committees monitoring and coordinating work of each of the six
municipal districts of the city.
The Deputy Mayor and Leader of the Opposition will serve in all
sub-committees, along with other members of the Colombo Municipal
Council who may also serve in any of the six sub-committees.
It is expected for the committee to meet monthly and the
sub-committees at least on a monthly basis, sources said.
The Committee Secretary will be the Urban Development and Sacred Area
Development Secretary and Secretaries of each of the sub-committees will
be Government officials, sources added.
