Police nab Prado robbers

Two gangsters who attempted to attack the Police on Wednesday in
Ingiriya were killed by Police, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG
Jayantha Wickramaratne said.
A group of four-member gang robbed a Prado jeep (number 65-8889) from
a house in Ingiriya at gun point on Tuesday around 10.00 p.m. “It is
believed that the gangsters had come from Panadura and fled away with
the jeep towards Ingiriya,” DIG Wickramaratne said.
Following a call from the owner of the jeep, Ingiriya Police set up
road blocks and apprehended the jeep with two suspects. Two managed to
escape. The suspects confessed that they committed many crimes in the
Ingiriya area. The suspects also revealed that they have kept weapons in
a secret place which they used for robberies and other crimes.
A Police team was deployed to inspect the weapons hidden by the
gangsters. “The two suspects guided a Police team to recover the weapons
hidden at a spot between Poruwapathana and Ingiriya.
The gangsters attempted to shoot the Police officers while inspecting
the place. The Police defended before the gangsters’ action. Both
gangsters were shot dead on the spot,” DIG Wickramaratne elaborated. |
