The Western Province Transport Authority (WPTA) will construct a
passenger bus depot for the Minuwangoda area at a cost of Rs. 52
million.
The proposed depot to be constructed on a land belonging to the
Minuwangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, will provide parking facilities to both
private and Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses in the area, a WPTA
spokesman told the Daily News.
“Passenger buses operating to and from Minuwangoda do not have a
designated area for parking. This has caused numerous difficulties for
bus operators and crew for a number of years. The construction of a
depot will solve these problems,” he said.
According to the spokesman, the acquisition of land required for the
construction will commence on October 24.
“We have already developed the Panadura and Padukka depots under the
WPTA’s programme to improve bus depots and stations within the province.
Under the next phase of the programme, we hope to develop the Delgoda
depot,” he added. |
