SLMC Leadership commended

The Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) of Sri Lanka in a media release yesterday commended the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leadership for the prompt action taken to suspend Deputy Minister K.A. Baiz and to hold an inquiry into his conduct in displaying his official firearm in public in a threatening manner.

“This is an eminent example to other political parties,” the OPA said in a release.

“An official firearm has been given to politicians for their personal protection and not to use them to threaten opponents.

Threatening people with a firearm is a criminal offence and the OPA calls upon the law enforcement agencies to take appropriate legal action in all such instances. The OPA suggests that the Ministry of Defence consider withdrawing firearms from such irresponsible politicians.”
