Malaka granted bail

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara yesterday released Malaka Silva on Rs. 50,000 cash bail and personal bail of Rs. 500,000 with two sureties.

In terms of the Court order, one of the sureties should be a parent of the suspect and the other a person acceptable to court.

The bail conditions imposed by the court would further prevent Silva from patronising night clubs. He was also ordered to hand over his passport to court.

President’s Counsel Denzil Gunaratne for petitioner Mary Lucida, Malaka Silva’s mother submitted that there was no evidence to show that her son used a pistol to attack the victim.

He submitted that the statements of Claudia, the German national and employees of the club did not reveal the use of any weapon by the suspect to attack the victim.

The State Counsel who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General did not object to the granting of bail.
