Governing Committee manages Sathutu Uyana -Vasu

All powers including granting approval, payments and accepting audit reports relating to the management of “Sathutu Uyana” have been vested with the Governing Committee, said CMC Opposition Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara before the One Man Commission probing irregularities at the CMC, yesterday.

This was confirmed by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jayantha Liyanage when he was cross-examined by Nanayakkara at yesterday’s Commission sittings. Nanayakkara claimed that Dr. Liyanage did not try to take over the “Sathutu Uyana” management from the said governing committee despite restrains placed by Local Government Ministry Secretary R. Paskaralingam in 1986.

Councillor of the Kandurata Janatha Peramuna K. T. Kurusami drew the attention of the Commission to the charges against the CMC and said it would ultimately affect the Councillors who did not cast their vote in favour of certain proposals before the Council too.” If the Commission gave a verdict against the Council it will be unfair”, Kurusamy added.

The present Chairmanship of the “Sathutu Uyana” was re- examined by the plaintiff before the Commission.
