Battaramulla administrative complex construction launched

THE second phase of the construction work on the Battaramulla
administrative complex was inaugurated by Urban Development and Sacred
Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane on Tuesday. Urban
Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake too participated.
The construction work on the administrative complex will be carried
out by the Urban Development Authority.
The estimated cost for the administrative complex is Rs. 2,500
million. Due to various reasons the plan to establish this
administrative complex was postponed in the past. The Urban Development
and Sacred Area Development Ministry was able to implement the plan
again, Ministry sources said.
The Battaramulla administrative complex is to be constructed in
parallel to the Greater Colombo Development Planning. Prime reason to
construct this administrative complex in Battaramulla is to develop
Colombo into a business hub in Asia.
Improperly constructed office complexes and Public Service
Institutions will be shifted from Colombo.
Minister Gunawardane said that on the completion of the
administrative complex a large number of Government offices in Colombo
could be shifted to Battaramulla.

Gunawardane said that the Ministry and the Urban Development Authority
are making great effort to shift the Government offices to Sri
Jayawardanapura, Battaramulla which is considered an administrative
city.
Minister Gunawardane said that the administrative complex will be
constructed with all facilities and would help the officers and
employees to render a productive service.
Urban Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake said that the
Government is providing all facilities to Government employees and the
public implementing the Mahinda Chinthana programme.
