Battaramulla administrative complex construction launched

THE second phase of the construction work on the Battaramulla administrative complex was inaugurated by Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane on Tuesday. Urban Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake too participated.

The construction work on the administrative complex will be carried out by the Urban Development Authority.

The estimated cost for the administrative complex is Rs. 2,500 million. Due to various reasons the plan to establish this administrative complex was postponed in the past. The Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Ministry was able to implement the plan again, Ministry sources said.

The Battaramulla administrative complex is to be constructed in parallel to the Greater Colombo Development Planning. Prime reason to construct this administrative complex in Battaramulla is to develop Colombo into a business hub in Asia.

Improperly constructed office complexes and Public Service Institutions will be shifted from Colombo.

Minister Gunawardane said that on the completion of the administrative complex a large number of Government offices in Colombo could be shifted to Battaramulla.

Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane said that the Ministry and the Urban Development Authority are making great effort to shift the Government offices to Sri Jayawardanapura, Battaramulla which is considered an administrative city.

Minister Gunawardane said that the administrative complex will be constructed with all facilities and would help the officers and employees to render a productive service.

Urban Development Minister Rohana Dissanayake said that the Government is providing all facilities to Government employees and the public implementing the Mahinda Chinthana programme.
