250,000 Lankans blind

THE International White Cane Day falls on October 15. The National ceremony organised by the Social Services and Social Welfare Ministry will take place on the same day at the Public Library, Colombo at 10.00 am, a Social Services and Social Welfare Ministry spokesman said.

He said 250,000 Sri Lankans are blind. A series of programmes have been initiated by the ministry under the direction of Social Services and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Lionel Premasiri under Mahinda Chinthanaya for the welfare of blind community.

A rehabilitation programme will be launched for the welfare of old blind persons through Blind Rehabilitation Fund of the ministry.
