Homagama Schools VB ends

VOLLEYBALL: The school volleyball tournament for boys U-15 and girls U-17 of Homagama, Kaduwela, Maharagama and Sri Jayawardanepura Education zonal divisions organised by Pannipitiya Metro Lions Club and Kottawa North Dharmapala Vidyalaya was held recently at Kottawa North Dharmapala Vidyalaya courts.

42 boys’ teams and girls’ teams took part in the tournament. Mampe Dharmaraja Vidyalaya and Bomiriya National School won the championship respectively.

The chief guest at the inaugural ceremony and the awards presentation ceremony was the governor of 306 C (2) Lion District Priyanka Beddewithana. The Divisional Director of Education A. Thusith Kumar. The Chairman of Pannipitiya Metro Lion’s Club. Wikum Weerakkody, ex.Governor’s Lion Lasantha Gunawardane and Lion K.D.K. Wijenayake also graced the occasion.

The champions (boys and girls) were awarded with Lions Trophy and cash awards of Rs. 7,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 4,000 respectively.

The best players, best spikers, best setter, the best server (girls and boys) were also awarded cash awards.

The results:

Boys Under 15 - 1. Mampe Dharmaraja Vidyalaya, 2. Kottawa North Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya, 3. Homagama Central College.

Girls Under 17 - 1. Bomiriya National School, 2. Kottawa North Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya, 3. Homagama Central College.

Special Awards (Boys)

Best player - Lasantha Sameera (Mampe Dharmaraja).

Best spiker - Aravind Garusinghe (Mampe Dharmaraja).

Best setter - Dileepa Dharshana (Kottawa, North Dharmapala).

Special Awards (Girls)

Best player - Charani Kumeshani (Kottawa North Dharmapla).

Best spiker - C. Shakila (Bomiriya National School).

Best setter - W.D. Madubhashani (Bomiriya National School).
