Stock of explosives detected near Lotus Road

COLOMBO: A stock of explosive items were found at a security guards counter near an advertisement collecting centre in Colombo last morning, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

According to Brigadier Nanayakkara, a Security Forces foot patrol detected the suspicious parcel at the security guards counter yesterday around 8.45 am. “The Security Forces foot patrol discovered a stock of explosive concealed in the parcel,” he added.

The Air Force bomb disposal squad were called to the scene.

The explosives included 125g of PE 3A explosives, five smoke grenades, a mobile charger, 15 feet of two core wire, two feet of safety fuse, a non electrical detonator, eight dry ration packets and an Air Force camouflage uniform kit. Fort police are investigating.
