Seetha Devi - hockey champions

HOCKEY: Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy displayed their prowess at hockey once again when they became champions at the all island schools invitation girls hockey tournament organised by Trinity College to celebrate their sixty years in hockey when they beat St. Anthony’s Girls College, Kandy 1-0 in the finals played at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy on Sunday. At half time their was no scoring.

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya scored their winning through Chathurika Wijesuriya off a pass from her cousin Yamuna Wijesuriya. Right extreme Pradeepa Nanadasena was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her fine contribution with consistency for Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya in the entire tournament.

This was Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya’s sixth trophy win for the season. They are coached by M.H.M. Ashroff.

In the Cup semi finals Seetha Devi BV beat Pushpadana Girls College 1-0 and Yasodara Vidyalaya, Colombo drew with St. Anthony’s Girls College and the latter moved into the finals by the toss of a coin.

In the Cup quarter finals Seetha Devi BV, Hemamali BV 2-0, Pushapadana GC beat Vijaya College 1-0, Yasodara Vidyalaya beat Girls High School 5-0, St. Anthony’s Girls College drew with Gothami BV nil but were through to the semi finals by the toss of a coin.

Plate championship

Vijaya College, Matale won the Plate Championship by defeating Gothami BV 1 - 0 in the finals. At half time there was no scoring. J. Boragahagoda scored for the winners.

In the semi finals Vijaya beat Hemamali 1-0 and Gothami beat Girls High School 1-0.

Bowl Championship

Sri Sangamiththa BV Matale beat President’s College, Rajagiriya 2-1 to annexe the Bowl Championship.

Former Trinity College hockey Captain M.H.M. Navavi was the Chief Guest and he distributed the awards with Principal Trinity College, Roderick Gilbert and others.
