Schools shuttle tourney from today

BADMINTON: The Sri Lanka Schools Knock-out Badminton Tournament for girls and boys organised by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association will start today and will be continued till October 7 at four venues Royal College, Sports Complex, Colombo, S. Thomas’ College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia, Musaeus College, Colombo and Sri Lanka Badminton Association, courts, Maitland Place, Colombo. Sri Lanka Telecom is the sponsor for this event.

A record number of 1,600 shuttlers including 850 boys and 750 girls players will be vying for honours for the respective age groups this year. A total of 5,575 players from 140 schools in the island participate in the preliminary stage. The events to be worked out are boys and girls singles and doubles for under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
