DLF condemns oppression of people’s rights in Myanmar
COLOMBO: The Democratic Left Front (DLF) in a statement yesterday
condemned the oppression of the people’s democratic movement in Myanmar
by the present military regime.
The statement signed by DLF Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara said the
military regime which grabbed power by toppling Democratic National
League Leader Aun Sang Suki who was elected by the people at the 1990
election and imprisoning her had been able to continue its oppression
due to the indirect support received from the USA and Russia and China
who had designs about Myanmar’s oil, gas and other natural resources.
The present people’s agitation which started with the sudden three
fold increase in fuel prices has now transformed into a mass campaign
supported by Maha Sangha to oust the military junta.
It is also common knowledge that the Imperialist powers were now
supporting the mass movement surreptitiously due to the military junta’s
leaning towards China.
However world history proved that the break up of the Myanmar
military dictatorship and victory of the democratic freedom movement
would be a certainty in the near future.
