Nothing dear about this pet deer

HIRIYALA: A 58-year-old father of three was gored to death by a pet deer reared at the Kekirithenpitiya Temple, Gokarella.

This was revealed at an inquest held by Karanathilaka Pitumpe, Inquire into Sudden Deaths in Hetahaya Korale on the death of D.M. Kiribanda of Thihawa, Gassandalupotha. He was gored to death while participating in a shramadana campaign at the temple. The deer at an earlier occasion too has gored and caused severe injuries to a monk at the temple.

The autopsy was conducted by Dr. Ariyarathna, D.M.O. of the Gokarella District Hospital.

The inquirer recorded a verdict of a sudden death caused by shock and haemorrhage caused by injuries.
