Selvan debunks pact claims during Presidential poll
‘We never received any money’:
KILLINOCHCHI: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has flatly
rejected allegations that the outfit entered into a secret pact with
agents of Mahinda Rajapaksa during the Presidential election period and
obtained large sums of money as a bribe to ensure his victory.
LTTE Political Wing Leader S.P. Thamilselvan broke the long silence
over this controversial issue by rejecting these charges outright on
Tuesday during a special interview given to Jaffna based Tamil daily
Uthayan and its sister paper Sudar Oli published in Colombo.
This is the first time the LTTE has made an official comment through
the media on this highly contentious issue rebutting claims that during
the Presidential Election period it induced a boycott of Tamil voters so
that Mahinda Rajapaksa would emerge victorious over his rival Ranil
Wickremesinghe.
S.P. Thamilselvan in this interview has mentioned their outfit never
paid attention to charges made by the main opposition since it was the
normal practice for Southern political parties to continue with such
false propaganda dragging the name of the LTTE.
He has mentioned that it was not their stance to reply to these false
allegations.
