KANDY: The UNP will contest future elections under its
elephant symbol irrespective of alliances made with any other political
party or group, UNP General Secretary and Kandy District MP Tissa
Attanayake said.
Addressing a UNP protest rally at Galagedara on Saturday, Attanayake
said the colour green and the elephant symbol had been synonymous with
the UNP since its formation in 1946 and they will not be changed at any
cost.
Attanayake said any political party or group is free to join hands
with the UNP for the protection of democracy and steering the country
towards development and progress. It was for this purpose that the
National Congress Jathika Sabhawa was formed by them, he said.
Toppling the government or defeating the budget would depend on
peoples needs and not on any other ground, he said.
The rally was organised by Galagedera UNP Chief Organiser and former
Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyaratne.
Kandy District Parliamentarians A. R. M. Abdul Cader and A.H.M.
Hakeem were also present. |
