Tiran Alles will be indicted - AG

Tiran Alles will be indicted, the Attorney General informed the Supreme
Court yesterday.
Deputy Solicitor General Dappule Livera informed the court that
statements of 87 persons had been so far recorded and that he would be
indicted in the High Court.
The DSG submitted that he could not give any undertaking that the
petitioner would not be taken into custody in that connection. The Bench
comprised Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC with Justice Nimal
Dissanayake and Justice Andrew Somawansa.
The petitioner cited the Defence Secretary, the IGP, DIG Mahinda
Balasuriya and six Police Officers attached to the Terrorist
Investigation Division and the Attorney General as respondents.
Petitioner Alles stated that he had been unlawfully and arbitrarily
arrested by the respondents on May 30, in violation of his rights
alleging that he had disbursed money to LTTE. He stated that his arrest
had been politically motivated and that he never had dealings with the
LTTE or given any money to the LTTE.
The petitioner sought a declaration his rights had been violated by
the respondents. President's Counsel Romesh de Silva with Sugath Caldera
instructed by G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the petitioner. DSG Dappule
Livera appeared for the respondents. |
