Mountain Biking on World Tourism Day at Bentota
MOUNTAIN BIKING: Sri Lanka will host the World Tourism Day. As
part of its celebration the Southern Provincial Council has undertaken
to conduct few sporting events.
The main event will be the Mountain Biking to be worked off on
September 26, which will be conducted by the National Mountain Biking
Association.
The event to be run in Bentota will be open events for men and women.
The riders will have to ride a distance of 30 kilometers. The riders are
scheduled to pass through the Beach, Jungle Paths, Garden Paths and
tarred roads to complete the distance of the race.
The event is expected to attract many foreigners who are holidaying
along the southern coastal area.
The idea was mooted by Tilak Weerasinghe the head of the Lanka Sports
Riezen who is highly involved in promoting tourism along with sports.
Southern Provincial Council has give the OK for the event to be
conducted in association with the Ruhunu Tourist Bureau.
Competitors interested are requested to obtain applications from NMBA
headquarters No. 524, Maradana Road, Colombo 10, or Lanka Sports Riezen,
S. de S. Jayasinghe Mawatha, Dehiwala.
Winners and runners-up will be awarded with trophies while all
competitors will be awarded certificates of participation.
