Lankans offered opportunities in Singapore’s health sector

COLOMBO: The Government of Singapore will shortly open the
doors for job opportunities in Singapore’s health sector to Sri Lankans
including post- graduate training in Singaporean hospitals.
This was revealed by a team of doctors from Singapore General
Hospital.
The team led by senior orthopaedic surgeon and chairman of the
Medical Board, Prof. Tay Boon Keng of Singapore General Hospital, told
Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva that the
Government of Singapore is ready to open doors to Sri Lankan nurses and
other health sector workers to work at leading hospitals in Singapore.
He said the Singaporean Government was prepared to give post-graduate
training for Sri Lankan medical students.
The team, comprising 87 members, are now in Colombo sharing their
experiences with Sri Lankan doctors, and medical staff at the
Orthopaedic Surgical Units in the national hospitals, Health Ministry
sources said.
Sources said the team had come to Sri Lanka on the invitation of
Health and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva.
The team is reported to have agreed to train the staff of Maharagama
Cancer Institute in handling modern medical equipment for surgical
operations.
It has already performed several orthopaedic operations on several
Sri Lankan patients and have held several lectures for local staff in
national hospitals. |
