Sutureless cataract eye surgery operations:
Orange Electric donates Rs. 6m eye equipments
As part of their “Light for You Sight for Me” CSR programme, fully
Sri Lankan family owned Electric Switch manufacturing giant Orange
Electric donated a Phacoemulasifier Machine valued at Rs. 6 million to
perform sutureless cataract eye surgery.

that may occur after such surgery, specially in areas like Kurunegala,
where purified water is scarce,” said, Consultant Ophthalmologist of the
Kurunegala Teaching Hospital Dr. Miss. Lilanthi Dharmaratne who
initiated the request and received the machine from the Orange Electric
Chairperson Tilaka Kodituwakku.
“This donation was possible due to the confidence our customers had
in us by choosing Orange Bulbs. Today all Orange Bulb packages carry our
CSR message “Light for You, Sight for Me” so that our customers also can
be a part of this meritorious act,” said Kodituwakku, who heads the CSR
program.
Orange Electric leader in electrical switches and sockets in Sri
Lanka. Two years ago the company introduced a range of Household bulbs,
energy saving CFLs and tube lights. Today Orange lighting bulbs boasts
of a 35% market share in Sri Lanka with sales of over 750,000 bulbs a
month.
“As a Sri Lankan company we wanted to give our people something in
return other than the lights we sell, said the Chief Operating Officer
of Orange Lighting Abdul Zubair.
“It is our aim to assist the government and other NGOs to eradicate
avoidable blindness so that our people will be able to see the world
with Orange Lighting when the sun sets,” said the CEO (International
Operations) of Orange Electric Ananda Rajapakse who was associated in
setting up this CSR program for the company in consultation with,
advisor to the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped, Dr.
Wickrema Weerasooriya.
During the past year, Orange Lighting has helped over 300 people to
undergo cataract surgery by meeting the cost of cataract lenses and
facilitating surgeries at government hospitals.
This is a good example of a Sri Lankan Company who proudly associates
with such a meritorious act, as service to the blind which cuts across

Specialists from Singapore tertiary hospital
NATIONAL HOSPITAL, National Hospital, Sri Lanka and Singapore General
Hospital (SGH), Singapore’s largest acute tertiary hospital and national
referral centre, are jointly organising a medical seminar on the latest
medical technology and techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery.
More than 300 doctors and healthcare officials from the various
hospitals in Sri Lanka including National Hospital and Sri
Jayewardenepura General Hospital are expected to attend the seminar.
Orthopaedic surgeons from SGH will be sharing the latest surgical
techniques available to manage spinal disorders, including minimally
invasive surgical procedures for the management of various conditions
such as low back pain, osteoporotic fractures and spinal deformities.
They will also be sharing innovative minimally invasive procedures
for knee and hip replacement surgery for the

management of severe

“SGH welcomes this opportunity to cross-share insights in medical
advances with doctors in Sri Lanka. We have had a history of sharing
medical expertise through conferences, fellowships and training stints.
