Mobile libraries to tsunami affected local bodies

COLOMBO: The Asian Foundation in collaboration with the American International Group has launched a Nena Sakmana programme to provide mobile libraries to the local government bodies affected by the tsunami.

Local Government and Provincial Council Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon handed over these vehicles to the Thirukkovil, Hikkaduwa and Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabhas at the BMICH recently.

These mobile libraries valued at Rs. 8 million are equipped with multimedia projectors and lap top computers and constantly monitored by the National Library Services Board and the Colombo Public Library.

This project aims to upgrade the reading habit and the IT literacy among students in the area. Library Services Board Chairman and Asian Foundation Director participated at the handing over ceremony.
