COLOMBO: A discussion held between the Students’ Union of the
Medical Faculty of the Rajarata University and the Vice Chancellor ended
without an agreement yesterday, A. Punchihewa, Senior Assistant
Registrar of the Medical Faculty of Rajarata University told the Daily
News.
He said that the Students’ Union demand more hostel and other
facilities.
Hostel facilities have already been provided for 150 Medical students
so far and even the first year students were provided with hostel
facilities violating the usual procedures. The total number of medical
students are 350.
Hostel facilities have been provided for 70 medical students in a
rented building located in Anuradhapura town but only 27 students are
there and other students have left the place telling that it is too far
from the university. But the distance between the location and the
university is only six kilometres, he added.
The faculty have all three required departments and all the other
facilities.
More buildings are to be constructed soon to meet the other
requirements.
Students were given all the facilities they requested but still they
find something to start a protest, he explained. |
