Mother of four clubbed to death

MODERA: A 40 year old mother of four was beaten to death at her residence by an unidentified man who also caused injuries to her 85 year old mother and two children. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at De La Salle Street, Modera.

According to Modera police the victim identified as Nilupa Fernando was a charted accountant at a reputed firm. Her husband who is an engineer was away at the time. Police recovered a wooden pole used in the murder inside the house.

The incident had taken place at around 8.30 pm. The victim had died on the spot from the blow to the head, police said.

They said the suspect first attacked the son Nilan Fernando (11), her daughter Nimali Fernando (13) and her mother Francy Ferando (85). The injured were admitted to the hospital.

Police said the victim’s husband had returned at around 9.30 pm and found the body of the wife and the children and mother-in-law in an unconscious state.

According to police the injured victims failed to identify the assailants and whether they came in a van or a motorcycle.

The Modera police are conducting the investigations.
