People’s Bank felicitates employees for long service
People’s Bank, the State banking giant, and winner of the ‘Banking
and Financial Services Brand of the Year’ award, at People’s Awards -
2007, will honour 815 employees, who have completed 25 years of service,
by offering them gold sove- reigns and certificates in appreciation of
their long years of service to People’s Bank.
A felicitation ceremony will be held on September 23, at the BMICH
with the participation of Chairman W. Karunajeewa, who will be the Chief
Guest at the occasion, and Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Asoka
de Silva, as the Guest of Honour. Members of the corporate and executive
management, and the Bank’s trade unions will also be a part of the
ceremony.
Each employee will receive a 22-carat gold sovereign, together with a
certificate of appreciation. The employees who are thus being
felicitated are those who have continuously served People’s Bank for 25
years.
Belonging to the Bank’s large network of branches and service centres
spread all across Sri Lanka, these employees have formed one of the
greatest strengths on which the Bank relies upon for the smooth
operation of Bank activities.
This ceremony, usually held to coincide with the anniversary of
People’s Bank, is being held for the 21st consecutive year.
It is a measure of the high regard with which People’s Bank considers
its employees, for their loyalty, dedication and valued service to the
Bank, as well as the nation.
Their contribution to the Bank in terms of the day-to-day running,
decision-making processes, evaluation and other activities have made
People’s Bank a strong and consistent contender in the ever competitive
banking industry.

Regional Business community for peace
The Business for Peace Alliance, (BPA) Sri Lanka’s regional business
network committed to Regional Empowerment, Conflict Transformation and
Corporate Social Responsibility reiterates its commitment on
International Peace Day., to link business enterprises throughout the
country and addressing regional concerns to foster national unity and
bring about a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka.
The BPA was established five years ago by the regional business
chambers as a “bottom up” regionally owned initiative to address common
regional issues and communicate the voice of the regions to policy
makers in Colombo.
It has now grown into a strong network of 25 members and affiliates
constituting approx 15, 000 small and medium scale entrepreneurs
throughout Sri Lanka.
Over the last 5 years, the regional business community through BPA
has broken geographical and man made barriers of race, religion and
class and forged significant business linkages, friendship and good will
amongst its members in all parts of Sri Lanka.
BPA members want a peaceful environment that is conducive to business
and economic development. They are vehemently opposed to communally
based or any other forms of violence or unrest within the regions and in
